AT&T tries to keep pace with T-Mobile, drops plan pricing

Just after T-Mobile offers customers a bit more with an update to their Simple Choice Plan, AT&T is doing something similar. The nation’s number two carrier is dropping the price of their Mobile Share Value Plan by $15. Though not quite as good a value as T-Mobile’s plan, it’s pretty close.

AT&T’s Mobile Share Plan gives customers unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data monthly for $65. For that price, you’ll also get unlimited international messaging and 50GB cloud storage. A comparable T-Mobile offers unlimited talk and text with 3GB data for $60/month. No cloud storage, and no unlimited international texting, though you can take advantage of T-Mobile’s border-breaking talk and messaging scheme.

This is the latest in a series of spats between the two companies. They argue over customers on Twitter, and T-Mobile CEO John Legere has been less than kind towards AT&T’s CEO. T-Mobile spends a lot of time and money trying to pry AT&T customers away, most notably with their breakup letters and various other shots across the bow.

Similarly priced but not carbon copies of one another, these two contract-free plans prove to be a line in the sand. By thwarting T-Mobile’s momentum in their own way, AT&T is showing they offer similar pricing. With their acquisition of Cricket, big blue is expected to continue putting pressure on little magenta. The real difference is network and coverage, an area where T-Mobile often can’t hold a candle to AT&T.
