Samsung rolling KitKat out to Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S 4 in Europe

The second and more popular version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 is finally getting updated to KitKat internationally. Samsung has started rolling out the KitKat update to the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 after the update has gone out to the Exynos-powered model. This is the international model, so rebranded carrier models need not apply.

This update features a slightly redesigned user interface with a white status bar to match stock KitKat aesthetics. There is also an improved lockscreen with full screen album art, emoji support in Android itself, Tap and Pay support and more included with KitKat. Samsung really hasn’t changed much, but it’s a welcome update nonetheless.

If you want the update, head to Settings > More > About device to check for updates. It’s a gradual update, so you may not get it immediately. Give it some time and it should come to your device. And if you have a carrier branded device, you’re at the mercy of your carrier. Hopefully we’ll see more carriers release the update stateside, because Sprint has already updated the Note 3 and S 4 to KitKat.
