Samsung announces octo core Exynos-powered Galaxy S5 variant for limited release

Since Samsung began using Snapdragon chips in its devices, the company has released two versions of its flagship. One powered by the Snapdragon processor with an LTE radio to please the markets graced with LTE, another powered by an in-house Exynos processor limited to 3G data. The Snapdragon variant was released across the world, while the Exynos variant was released in limited markets that would want a 3G only device.

This year is no different. Samsung has announced the second version of its newest flagship. While yesterday’s announcement gave us the Galaxy S5 with the Snapdragon 801 quad core processor, today’s quiet announcement gives us a Galaxy S5 variant powered by a 2.1GHz octo core Exynos processor. If history repeats itself, this model will not have an LTE radio and will be released in only a few countries. The US will definitely never see it.

While it makes some sense to create a Galaxy S5 without LTE to appease customers in areas without the network, it would be less work to release one device across the world and only have to support that one variant. But this is the way Samsung likes to do it. How many of you actually see the Exynos variant in your country?
