Huawei unveils the MediaPad X1 – the world’s smallest 7-inch tablet

Huawei is kicking off Mobile World Congress with the introduction of the Huawei MediaPad X1. While the device is technically classified as an LTE capable tablet, we’re not exactly sure what to call it since it is capable of making phone calls as well. While we have seen dozens of 7-inch Android tablets over the years, the Huawei MediaPad X1 is able to boast that it is the smallest devices in the category with an aluminum chassis which is 7.18mm thick and only 103.9mm wide. Fortunately, the tablet’s small size does not mean a small battery. Huawei has equipped the Media Pad X1 with a massive 5,000 mAh battery – the largest battery for any device with a 7-inch display.

The Huawei MediaPad X1 is running on the company’s Emotion UI on Android 4.2 and its spec sheet includes a Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 910 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 7-inch 1,920 x 1,200 LTPS display, 13 megapixel Sony Exmor R BSI f/2.4 rear camera with LED flash, 5 megapixel f/2.2 front camera, 16 GB of storage, microSD card slot (up to 32GB), 802.11n WiFi and TD-LTE/FD-LTE network support with 150Mbps LTE Cat 4 radios which means you should be able to get LTE coverage in Europe, the Americas and China.

The Huawei MediaPad X1 does not have a price tag yet, but he tablet will be heading to China, Russia, Western Europe, Middle East, Japan and Latin America in March. Since Huawei is making a huge push in the North American market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few US and Canadian service providers pick up the MediaPad X1 in the first half of 2014.
