Android 4.4 Leaked for the AT&T LG Optimus G Pro

Ever since its release in late October alongside the highly anticipated Google Nexus 5, Android 4.4 KitKat has been gradually making its way out to various consumer devices—first to modern Nexus and GPe devices, and later to other phones and tablets. While the aftermarket development community here on XDA has largely picked up the slack for the slow pace of OEMs, it’s still quite nice when a manufacturer releases an official build.

Now, we’ve gotten word that the official Android 4.4 update is drawing near for the LG Optimus G Pro. This discovery was made by XDA Forum Member shanmukha24 after he lost his IMEI when flashing a ROM to his AT&T LG G Pro (E980 ATT). After sending it in for service, the phone returned to him with a beta build of KitKat (AT&T branding, and all). And according to shanmukha24, the service person stated that the update would be making its way out within a month or so.

While the news of a coming update for a relatively high end device would normally be of no major significance, progress is being made to extract this beta KitKat ROM for all others to enjoy. As such, shanmukha24 has already managed to extract the /system partition, in the hopes that developers can create a flashable update for rooted end users.

Head over to the Android 4.4 Update Discussion Thread to get in on the action. And if you wish to take a stab at turning the extracted /system partition into a working ROM, head over to this post.

[Many thanks to XDA Forum Member The_Carb for the tip!]
