Google Home Hub is a smart speaker with a 7-inch display
Back in August we heard that Google was more than likely working on a new smart speaker, this one equipped with a large touchscreen display.
At the time there wasn’t much else to go on. Google had plans for a new smart speaker and it would probably have a 7-inch touchscreen on it. But now MySmartPrice has a bit more to work with. The publication was able to get its hands on a few different images, including one that shows off the device in clear view.
We’re learning that the new smart speaker will be called “Home Hub” and that it will indeed have a 7-inch touchscreen display attached to a speaker. According to the report, we shouldn’t expect to see a full Android tablet experience, but rather “a scaled-down Google Assistant interface”. Based on the images, that means a lot of card-based interactions.
Voice commands will be supported, as expected. And the Home Hub is meant to connect to a plethora of other smart devices in the home. So if you want to see the viewpoint of your Nest camera out front, you can simply ask Google Assistant to show you and the video feed will appear on the Home Hub’s display.
The Home Hub will support 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, and include Bluetooth as well. It will be available in white and charcoal, and it will feature things like “Live Album”, which will let owners create a slideshow to show off on the display based on the photos saved to their Google Photos library.
We will probably see Google unveil the Home Hub during its Pixel 3 event next month. We don’t know when it will launch or how much it will cost right now, but we probably don’t have long to wait to find out.
