Xfinity Mobile to start throttling video resolution and mobile hotspot speeds

Xfinity Mobile from Comcast launched last year, and now the wireless operator is making some big changes.

Folks sharing on Reddit have confirmed that Xfinity Mobile is planning to implement some throttling measures for certain features. First and foremost, in a change that impacts both the pay-per-GB and unlimited plan offerings, Xfinity Mobile will begin throttling streaming video on the network to just 480p.

There is a way to work around this for now, though. If you are already an Xfinity Mobile unlimited customer, you can get in touch with customer support and ask to get your video streaming set at 720p while on the network. This will be a free “upgrade” for a short period of time — Xfinity Mobile is going to start charging an unknown fee for the 720p streaming resolution upgrade later this year.

Xfinity Mobile also plans to begin throttling mobile hotspot speeds for unlimited customers to just 600kbps. If you’re a pay-per-GB customer, though, mobile hotspot speeds will stay at 4G speeds.

What do you think of Xfinity Mobile’s changes?
