Samsung Galaxy Note 9 S Pen with Bluetooth passes through the FCC

Before June came to an end, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 made the rounds through the FCC on its way to an announcement later this year.

We already know that Samsung plans on unveiling the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9. Ahead of that, though, the FCC is busy approving the most important accessory for the upcoming handset, the Galaxy Note 9′s S Pen stylus. As was initially spotted by Droid-Life, the new S Pen’s model number is EJ-PN960, which lines up with the Galaxy Note 9′s model number, SM-N960.

The FCC results also confirm that the S Pen for the Galaxy Note 9 will be equipped with Bluetooth, which will add even more functionality. It’ll connect to the Galaxy Note 9 using 2.4GHz Bluetooth LE. Unfortunately, while the Bluetooth feature is confirmed, the FCC hasn’t confirmed any new features that will come along with an S Pen with Bluetooth.

However, a separate report from Ice Universe suggests that Samsung may include music playback controls with the S Pen and even let you control timers from a distance. The button on the S Pen could certainly handle those use cases.

The original report also indicates that the unlocked variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also stopped by at the FCC with a model number of SM-N960U, with support for all of the major wireless carriers in the United States.

Are you looking forward to the Galaxy Note 9′s launch?
