LG’s 2018 edition K8 and K10 announced ahead of MWC

This year’s Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, and while rumor has it that LG is going to announce a high-end V30s during the show, the company is unveiling two other new handsets a little early.

Today the Life’s Good crew officially announced two new devices: the 2018 editions of the K8 and K10. LG says these “mass-tier” handsets offer features that are typically found in premium flagships, but points to both of these devices having much lower price tags whenever they do go on sale.

Let’s dig right in with the LG K8. This handset will boast a 5-inch 720p HD display, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor under the hood, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage. There is a microSD card slot that will hold up to 32GB cards. There is a single 8MP camera on the back, and a 5MP front-facing camera on the other side. The battery measures in at 2500mAh, and the K8 is running Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. It will be available in three colors: Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, and Terra Gold.

Meanwhile, the LG K10 boasts a 5.3-inch 720p HD display, a 1.5GHz octa-core processor, and a 3000mAh battery. It’s running Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box and it will have a fingerprint scanner on the back. There are three different variants of the K10, with some specific feature changes in each.

The standard K10 will have 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 2TB. The K10+ has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, with a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 2TB. And the K10α offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, and also supports cards up to 2TB in the microSD card slot.

Here is how the camera situation breaks down:

Camera:
K10+ : Rear 13MP / Front 8MP or 5MP (Wide)
K10: Rear 13MP / Front 8MP or 5MP (Wide)
K10α : Rear 8MP / Front 5MP

The official press release notes that the 13MP rear camera in the K10 (and K10+) is the same 13MP camera that’s available in the LG G6, so the results should certainly be worthwhile for future owners.

Depending on the variant, you’ll get different color options, too: K10 comes in Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, and Terra Gold. The K10+ will be offered in Moroccan Blue and Terra Gold, while the K10α will be available in Aurora Black and Terra Gold.

No word on a release date or price point for either handset just yet.

What do you think of the 2018 edition K8 and K10?
