Sony unveils selfie-centric Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, and L2 smartphones
Sony has long struggled to find a foothold in the mobile market, particularly in North America. While Sony may no longer be focused on breaking into the saturated U.S. market, the company is continuing to release devices in more receptive markets around the globe. To kick off 2018, Sony is releasing three new devices billed as “selfie smartphones.” The line includes the Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra, as well as the Xperia L2.
The Xperia XA2 boasts a 23-megapixel rear camera with a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor that is designed to capture crystal-clear images in low light situations. Sony is also boasting 4K video recording and 120fps slow motion video capture. Around front is a 120-degree wide-angle camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels. Other specs include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage plus a microSD card slot, fingerprint sensor, 3300mAh battery with fast charging, and Android Oreo.
As the bigger brother, the Xperia XA2 Ultra features the same rear camera, but adds a dual camera setup to the front of the phone. This array contains a 16-megapixel selfie camera with optical image stabilization, as well as the same 8-megapixel wide-angle camera. Other differences include a 6-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage, and a 3580mAh battery.
The Xperia L2 features a 5.5-inch 720p display, MediaTek processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage plus a microSD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, wide-angle 8-megapixel selfie camera, a 3300mAh battery, and notably, will still launch with Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
The Xperia L2 will launch first, with availability in select markets beginning at the end of January 2018, with Black, Gold, and Pink color options. Both the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra will launch in February 2018 with Silver, Black, Blue, Gold, and Pink color options, depending on the model.
