LG’s 2018 ThinQ smart TVs have Google Assistant on board

Back in December, ahead of the CES hustle and bustle, LG announced that its upcoming ThinQ smart speaker would have Google Assistant on board and that it would properly unveil the new device in the beginning of January.

LG is no stranger to using digital personal assistants on televisions, but it looks like it wants a two-fold strategy moving forward. LG confirmed today that its new ThinQ-branded smart TVs will not only include its proprietary digital personal assistant (tied to the webOS operating system), but also Google Assistant.

With the first-party AI on board, future 2018 LG TV owners (of both the OLED and “Super UHD” sets) will be able to use their voice to tell the TV to shut down after the program they’re watching comes to an end, or even search for specific parts of the movie you’re watching at the time.

Having Google Assistant on board means that you can ask questions, control smart home devices, and more. LG says that Google Assistant will only be available in select markets, but it doesn’t say which markets those will be. The 2018 ThinQ smart TVs will be able to serve as smart home hubs as well.

As for a release date or pricing, the Life’s Good crew isn’t keen on revealing that information just yet. We should learn more about the 2018 ThinQ smart TV lineup next week at CES in Las Vegas, Nevada.
