Future Samsung phones will have working FM radio chips in the U.S. and Canada

An FM radio chip is available in most phones, but it’s typically. That won’t be the case for Samsung for much longer.

Samsung has partnered with NextRadio, which means that future Samsung-branded smartphones in the US and Canada will have a working FM radio chip. With the FM chip enabled, you will be able to access local FM radio broadcasts right from your phone. You’ll need a wired headset to serve as the antenna, though, so keep that in mind.

Having access to local FM radio stations should be a nice addition for Samsung devices because it serves a lot of different situations. For instance, if you don’t have a reliable network connection and don’t have your favorite music downloaded to your phone, you will be able to access an FM radio broadcast and find some music. You’ll also be able to catch local news broadcasts, get local weather, and more.

Samsung phones in the United States and Canada are those covered in this NextRadio partnership, so we should see those devices land on the market soon. We’ve already heard that the Galaxy S9 will keep the 3.5mm headphone jack, so that handset could be a strong way to start Samsung’s support for FM radio chips. If you want to take advantage of the FM radio chip, you can download the NextRadio Android app from the Play Store.

What do you think of the new partnership?
