Google adds Chromecast control to Assistant on smartphones

Google’s goal of interconnecting its services and devices is slowly advancing. A major player is the Google Assistant, which expands across numerous devices and allows users to control hardware and services with voice commands. Fragmentation has proven to be an issue, however, with some abilities only available for Google Home users and not smartphone users, or vice versa. One major trouble spot has been Chromecast control, which has been available on the Google Home but not for smartphones, which seems counterintuitive considering that most Chromecast services are controlled by the connected smartphone.

After a long wait, Google is finally adding Chromecast control to the Assistant on smartphones. The control works with both music and video, and users can specify which Chromecast they’re controlling. Playback controls like play, pause, stop, raise/lower volume, skip, and much more.

The feature is rolling out slowly, so you may not immediately see it on your device. Sit tight, and in time, the new functionality will reach your device.
