Essential Phone durability tested, holds up very well

The Essential Phone is as premium as they get, materials-wise. The front is Gorilla Glass 5, the rear is ceramic, and the frame is titanium. All this means that it should be a very durable phone. YouTuber JerryRigEverything put this to the test.

The first series of tests were scratch, fire, and bend tests. The Gorilla Glass 5 performed as well as expected and the ceramic back proved to be extra resistant to scratches. The titanium frame scratched easier, but it is far more resilient than the aluminum frames used on most phones. When the display was burned, the pixels came back to life in a few moments. The device also didn’t bend at all, proving itself to be very durable.

The drop test didn’t go so well because the screen shattered on the first drop, but the phone dropped flat on its screen so this is expected of any phone. Other drops showed that the titanium frame and ceramic back were extremely drop resistant, and the plastic frame absorbed impact around the glass. Even JRE said the first drop may have been bad luck.

During my review, I dropped the device from chest height onto hardwood floor. it fell right onto the corner towards the display (right on the plastic bit) and the screen did not shatter.

The testing is definitely entertaining and educational, though we mourn the loss of another premium smartphone. Let us know what you think of this in the comments!
