Google reportedly cancels ‘muskie’ Pixel XL successor for something bigger

Earlier this year a report surfaced that detailed the rumored codenames for Google’s upcoming successors to the Pixel and Pixel XL. According to that report, the Pixel XL’s followup was codenamed “muskie,” but it turns out we may not see that device after all.

Android Police reports that Google has cancelled the handset known as “muskie” internally, and is instead deciding on going with a different phone — one that’s even bigger than the Pixel XL. This new report lines up with one earlier this year from Droid-Life, where a device codenamed “taimen” was reportedly being developed, which featured a screen size bigger than both the Pixel and Pixel XL.

Now it seems that Google is moving forward with the larger “taimen” device, and we could see it unveiled later this year alongside the standard Pixel followup, which is codenamed “walleye” and reportedly still in development.

Unfortunately, any further details on the subject are light at this point. If Google is indeed planning on launching a phone that has a bigger screen size than the Pixel XL’s 5.5-inch panel, one has to wonder if they plan on going with a new design — one with minimal bezels, which is all the rage these days.
