Google has confirmed that a new Chromebook Pixel is in the works

Google‘s own Renee Niemi has confirmed that the company is currently working on a new Chromebook Pixel and that it will be coming soon. The original Chromebook Pixel served as a reference and concept device from Google, designed to show what could be done with Chrome OS and that the OS isn’t simply for budget devices. The Chromebook Pixel 2 looks as though it will carry on that legacy, as Niemi stated that the device will be a “proof of concept” and will designed for developers. Read the full quote:

We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And...our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out.Renee NiemiGoogle

The Chromebook Pixel 2 isn’t a device intended for consumers, but one made for developers and those working closely to improve Chrome OS. The device is rumored to share a similar design to its predecessor, maintaining a 12.85-inch screen size and ultra-high resolution. It also looks to have built-in fans and the new reversible type-C USB ports. Other specs are still up in the air, but we’ll keep you posted on further developments regarding the Chromebook Pixel 2.
