Vivo X5 Max enters thin smartphone battle at just 4.75mm thick

The battle for the thinnest smartphone has been raging for the past year or so, with device makers constantly one-upping each other by releasing thinner and thinner phones. Today Vivo became king of the thin smartphone hill with the X5 Max.

The Vivo X5 Max measures in at just 4.75mm thick, a size that it’s able to achieve thanks in part to its 1.36mm-thick screen. As for the rest of the X5 Max’s spec list, we’re glad to report that it’s no slouch:

  • 5.5-inch 1920×1080 Super AMOLED display
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX214 sensor
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • Snapdragon 615 processor
  • 16GB of storage
  • microSD card support
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Dual-SIM support
  • Hi-Fi 2.0 audio
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Android 4.4.4
  • Custom Funtouch OS 2.0 user interface

Vivo’s ultra-thin phone will go on sale in December 22 for CNY 2,998, or around $485 USD.

Obviously the X5 Max’s main selling point is its thinness, but it’s good to see that Vivo was able to cram some other nice specs inside of the phone’s 4.75mm-thick body. What will be interesting is seeing what kind of battery life the device is able to achieve with such a thin body.

Would you use the Vivo X5 Max as your daily driver?
