Oppo R5 is the thinnest smartphone in the world

Alongside the launch of the Oppo N3, the Chinese vendor launched the R5, a device with a thickness of just 4.85mm, making it the thinnest smartphone in the world. The Oppo R5 has more than just its sleek looks going for it, as the device comes with a 64-bit CPU and a full-HD display.

Constructed out of aluminum alloy, the Oppo R5 measures 148.9 x 74.5 x 4.85mm, and is powered by Qualcomm's 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU, which features eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. Also included is a 5.2-inch full-HD display with wide viewing angles, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 13 MP camera with a Sony imaging sensor (IMX214), 5 MP front shooter, LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The 2,000 mAh battery has a variant of turbo charging that allows you to quickly top up as needed. the software side features Oppo's ColorOS 2.0 atop Android 4.4 KitKat.

To accommodate the internals in such a tightly packed chassis, Oppo has created a coolant derived from liquid-metal and phase-change materials to dissipate heat away from the CPU. As is usual in a device this thin, the camera sensor protrudes at the back.

The Oppo R5 is set to retail for $499, although an exact launch date is not available. What are your thoughts on the device?
