FreedomPop now offering $89 own-brand tablet, more devices coming soon

FreedomPop, the carrier known for offering free monthly voice and data plans, is now selling its own line of devices, starting with an $89 Wi-Fi only tablet. The FreedomPop Liberty is a 7-inch Android tablet with a 1.2GHz Cortex A9 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 4-megapixel front-facing camera, 2400mAh battery and a microSD card slot to expand storage. It’s thick, chunky and definitely budget, but the FreedomPop Liberty is still a 7-inch tablet for $89. A 4G LTE model, dubbed the FreedomPop Frenzy, is coming next month for $99.

FreedomPop has also said that it plans to offer its own $89 4G LTE Android smartphone in the near future, though no further details were given on that. While these devices are clearly low-end, that’s the market that FreedomPop is targeting with its free voice and data plans. For $89, a customer could get a smartphone with a free amount of service and save a tremendous amount of money. It’s an unorthodox approach, but one that might just work.

What are your thoughts?
