Amazon reportedly set to drop more than $1 billion on Twitch

Recent rumors suggested that Google was nearing a deal to add video game streaming service Twitch to its list of acquisitions, but now it appears as though that deal won’t be happening.

Sources speaking to The Information and the Wall Street Journal claim that Amazon is nearing a deal to acquire Twitch. The Information says that the two companies are in “late-stage talks” for a deal, while the WSJ claims that Amazon has already agreed to “more than $1 billion” for Twitch.

Neither Amazon nor Twitch have commented on these rumors, but it’s said that an official announcement could come as early as today. It’s not yet clear what Amazon might want with Twitch, but with its large video rental and sales division, it’s possible that it may want to get into video game streaming and the budding eSports scene as well.
