Jolla Phone Launcher Ported to All Devices Running Android 4.2+

Jolla2

The Jolla phone has been out for a while now, and running Sailfish OS, it presents itself as a fresh and interesting alternative what we’ve all gotten used to over the years—albeit it has heritage in the more primitive MeeGo previously. Normally, those who are looking to give Sailfish a go would have to either get some hands on experience with the Jolla phone themselves or wait around for a port to their current device. But because both of these options may not be possible, it’s good to see that folks can now be able to experience a large part of the OS with the recently ported Sailfish launcher.

Ported by XDA Forum Member riyono, the Sailfish launcher is compatible with any device running Android 4.2 or newer, and seems to be mostly working as it should. The navigation of the launcher is exactly the same as what you would do on a Jolla phone, that is, swiping from the edges of the screen to access the app drawer, lock screen, and going back to the previous screen. Normally, there would be no navigation buttons at all, but because the port is still in its alpha phase, the Android navigation buttons still persist in the launcher.

The Sailfish launcher is definitely something worth trying out if you’ve been seriously considering purchasing a Jolla phone, or even if you’re simply curious about its unique user interface. So if you have a compatible Android device and want to give this a go, check out the original thread for more information.
