Samsung Z launches as first Tizen-powered phone

Over the past year or two, Samsung has been hard at work on building out a new mobile operating system called Tizen. Now the time for Tizen to enter into the market has finally arrived, and while the OS has already appeared on Samsung’s Gear smartwatches, today marks the launch of the first Tizen-powered smartphone, the Samsung Z. The Samsung Z is powered by Tizen 2.2.1 and features a decent spec list that includes a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 2.3GHZ quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage expandable via microSD, 8-megapixel camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE. Not shabby at all.

The Samsung Z also carries over some of Samsung’s favorite TouchWiz features like Ultra Power Saving Mode, Download Booster, S Health 3.0 and the fingerprint sensor that came with the Galaxy S5. The Z will be launching in Russia in Q3, but Samsung says that it has plans to expand the phone to other markets. The Z will also be on display at the Tizen Developers Conference in San Francisco this week.

Are you a fan of the Samsung Z?
