Live World Cup 2014: The World Cup At Your Fingertips
If you’ve been keeping up with football, you’ll know that—USA! USA! USA! Jokes and political climes aside, the World Cup is a beautiful event that brings the cultures of the world together in a celebration of sport. Of course you’ll want to be keeping up with it.
For the past few days, I’ve been keeping up with the World Cup using Live World Cup 2014. I’ve enjoyed my experience and was pretty impressed.
The Good
This free app is loaded with features. The home screen presents the options to “Watch Live,” view teams by “Groups,” view the “Schedule,” check out the “Points Table,” keep tabs on your “Favorite Teams” and even enter the “Predict & Win” sweepstakes. Contestants who predict the most game outcomes correctly have the chance to win an iPad, Xbox 360, PS4 or PureVPN Premium Account. Not bad for a free contest.
The app is smooth and the design is simple and easy to understand. The navigation is very obvious and accessible without monopolizing screen space. You can perform many tasks fromone screen. For example, the “Schedule” screen allows you to sort by date, team or group as well as go directly to the official broadcaster websites where you can watch live. And the “Favourite Teams” screen provides a customized news feed for each team you’ve elected to follow. Switching between teams is super easy—just tap the team you want to read about.
The Bad
The only problem I had with this app was with the “Watch Live” functionality. Within the“Watch Live” screen, you’re given information on where to watch, what language the broadcast is in and where the stream is available. Next to this information is a button that will redirect you to the official broadcaster website where the feed is hosted.
However, I couldn’t get any of the sites to work—for one reason or another. The feed wasn’t available in my country (felt weird to get that problem for once) or I needed an account with the cable provider or the sites required Flash to be installed. Tip: You have to use the free VPN offered with this app to access the geographically restricted channels.
Granted—none of this is the app’s fault. The app just curated a list of places where you can watch live matches, depending on availability by regional basis. So if you want to access the restricted channels you have to install the VPN app, too.
The Outcome
If you’re a soccer/football/European Football fan, I can’t think of any reason not to download this app and give it a try. So, click the widget and give it a go or I’ll give you a yellow card for showing dissent.
