Samsung ‘Galaxy Tab S’ tablets reportedly coming with high-res AMOLED displays

Samsung has already introduced quite a few new Android-powered tablets this year, including its NotePRO and TabPRO models as well as the Galaxy Tab4 family. Apparently ol’ Sammy’s still cooking up some new tablets in its kitchens, though, as a new rumor claims to have details on a pair of AMOLED-equipped units.

A report from SamMobile says that Samsung is prepping two new tablets that will be a part of the “Galaxy Tab S” family. The devices will allegedly be available in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch screen sizes, both of which will have 2560×1600 AMOLED screens.

In addition to the super high-res AMOLED panels, the Galaxy Tab S models are said to be coming with octa-core Exynos 5 processors, which consist of four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores. We’re also told to expect 3GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear and 2.1-megapixel front cameras, Wi-Fi and LTE variants, Android 4.4.2 and fingerprint sensors similar to the one found on the Galaxy S5.

Finally, the design of these new Galaxy Tab S models are described as being similar to the Galaxy Tab4 models, but with considerably slimmer edges. The devices will reportedly be sold in Shimmery White and Titanium Grey color options.

It’s interesting to hear that Samsung may be prepping these high-end Galaxy Tab S models, as it’s only been a few months since it launched the premium NotePRO and TabPRO slates. One difference between the PRO tablets and these Galaxy Tab S models are their screen technologies, with the former using Super Clear LCD and the latter utilizing AMOLED. Is that a big enough change to warrant two new Galaxy Tab models? Samsung may think so.
