Motorola officially announces the dumbphone killing Moto E

Motorola set themselves apart from the competition in 2013 in a very positive way. With the Moto X, they showed us that experience trumps specs any day. With the Moto G they reinforced that, changing the way we look at low-end Android devices. The Motorola Moto E looks to carry on what the Moto X and Moto G started, offering up a complete smartphone experience for an impressively low price.

Thanks to leaks you should be familiar with the specs of the Moto E by now. The Motorola Moto E comes with a 4.3-inch qHD (960×540 pixels, sorry not QHD) display at 256ppi, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200, Adreno 302 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, 5-megapixel rear camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 3G and a 1980mAh battery. The display is scratch-resistant, the entire phone is water resistant against small splashes or light rain and there are a wide array of colorful shells for customizing the Moto E. As far as software is concerned, the Moto E runs on Android 4.4 with a handful of custom Motorola software and is guaranteed be updated when the next version of Android is launched.

As a true testament to what Motorola was able to achieve last year with the Moto G, despite the Moto E’s low-end specs, we can’t wait to get our hands on the device and see just what around $100 will buy you in a smartphone.
