OnePlus One to be powered by Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM

Yesterday OnePlus continued to tease its upcoming One smartphone with an “unboxing” hosted by Cyanogen Inc.’s Steve Kondik. The hype-building continues today, but thankfully we’ve got some actual information to share with you this time.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the One will be powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor. OnePlus previously said that the One would feature a Snapdragon 800, but Lau explains that he wanted to “take full advantage of the fastest SoC currently on the market.”

Lau also revealed that the OnePlus One will include 3GB of RAM, which is more than many other high-end Android phones on the market. The exec says that he worked with OnePlus engineers to maximize the One’s performance and that with 3GB of RAM, users will never need to be concerned about their RAM usage.

These two new spec details make for exciting additions to the OnePlus One, especially since the device will now be powered by a Snapdragon 801 rather than the older Snapdragon 800. Best of all is the news that the processor switch won’t affect the One’s big debut, as CEO Pete Lau promises that the handset is still on track for an April 23 unveiling.

Does OnePlus’s decision to switch to a Snapdragon 801 make you more interested in the One?
