Nate Swanner T-Mobile is upping the ante on the competition again. This time, they’re bumping all Simple Choice plans up in data allotment — sometimes doubling what they’re currently getting — but not raising prices. The change takes effect March 23rd, and affects all Simple Choice plans.
The basic $50 plan
will bring us a full 1GB of data monthly, which is double what’s currently on offer. You can still add more lines for the same price, and everyone has the option to chip in another $10 month for additional data. That data add-on will now be 3GB, whereas it was once 2.5GB. If you end up needing more data, there is also a $20/month option which gets you 5GB data. A $30/month add-on gets you unlimited data along with the unlimited talk and text you get standard.
All data included in the plans is high speed, while going over puts your into 2G. This adds a new twist to T-Mobile’s push for unlimited data when everyone else is steering customers toward shared plans. T-Mobile CEO John Legere said “In the mobile age, wireless data caps and overage fees are just this side of extortion”. He went on to describe the basic plans offered from Verizon and AT&T as “the classic shakedown”, likening it to loan sharking.
The best part is, we still get to keep all the satellite stuff like tethering and international calling. More data helps, and as CMO Mike Sievert put it “In a couple weeks, every single one of our millions of Simple Choice customers will wake up with more value without lifting a finger”.
