Oppo Find 7 announced, includes support for capturing 50MP photos

Oppo has been slowly trickling out details of its new Find 7 smartphone over the past several months, but today the company officially lifted the gates and let the full wave of information flow.

The Oppo Find 7 made its official debut today, and as expected, the new flagship Android smartphone boasts a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 display. There’s also a second version of the Find 7, known as the Find 7a, with a display that’s the same size but a lower resolution (1080p). Other differences between the Find 7 and Find 7a include the processors (2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 vs. 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800), internal storage (32GB vs. 16GB), RAM (3GB vs. 2GB) and battery size (3000mAh vs. 2800mAh).

While the Find 7 and Find 7a may have quite a few differences when it comes to their internals, there are a few traits that the two phones have in common. Both include support for microSD cards up to 128GB in size, both have 4G LTE connectivity, both have a notification LED at the bottom of their faces and they both sport “VOOC” rapid charging capabilities, which means that they can be juiced up from 0 percent to a 75 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

What about the camera, you ask? The 13-megapixel Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor is one of the Find 7′s highlight features, because when working in conjunction with Oppo’s Pure Image 2.0 image signal processor, the shooter can produce 50-megapixel “Super Zoom” photos. It does this by burst capturing 10 photos and then combining the best 4 shots into a single image. Other camera-related features of the Find 7 include 4K video capture and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

The Oppo Find 7 will launch with Android 4.3 and Oppo’s custom ColorOS 1.2 overlay in May or June with price tag of $599. The lower-end Find 7a will arrive both earlier and cheaper, with a launch slated for mid-April at $499. Both devices look like respectable new offerings from Oppo, though obviously those fans of bleeding edge hardware will want to shell out the extra $100 for the premium Find 7 and its 2560×1440 display. It’s kind of a bummer that we won’t be able to put the Find 7 and its high-end feature set to the test for another couple of months, but the saying is that good things come to those who wait, so here’s to hoping that that applies here as well.
