Australian HTC One Receives Android 4.4.2, OTA Captured

red-htc-one

Yesterday we talked about how the European HTC One was finally receiving its Android 4.4.2 KitKat update once more. The device, which initially saw its official KitKat release back in January, later had the update pulled due to issues that certain users were facing. Now, it’s update time for the Australian variants of the One.

Today’s update bumps the Australian variants of the HTC One to software version 4.20.980.1. The firmware, which is currently being delivered in the form of a 308 MB incremental OTA update, is making its way to Optus, Telstra, and Vodafone devices.

Since the update is being rolled out in the form of a staged OTA, not every device will receive the update immediately. Luckily, XDA Senior Member deeevan has mirrored both the radio files and the incremental OTA update for Optus devices that haven’t yet received the update. A TWRP NANDroid image is also in the process of being created, and  users may have certain luck in porting the Optus OTA over to other devices. However, it’s not recommended at this time to attempt applying the update directly on Telstra and Vodafone variants without modification.

You can get in on the discussion by visiting the Australian HTC One discussion thread. Those wishing to get in on the update action a bit early should head over to deevan’s mirror for the Optus variant of the device.

[Many thanks once again to XDA Portal Supporter Titokhan for the tip!]
